Write a journal explaining symbolism. Give two examples of the use of symbolism in the novel, The Scarlet Letter.
Symbolism is when something in a literary work represents another something which is actually real within the story. One example of symbolism in The Scarlet Letter is the scarlet letter found on Hester's bosom. The letter represents compassion, and it can also, as I believe represent her sin and shame. Another example, is the Black Man, which symbolizes Satan.
Symbolizism is when an object represents another object or theme in a literary work. Within The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, several sybolisms are present in the work. For example, the rose bush in the beginning of the novel not only symbolizes but foreshadows Hester's eventual reard for confessing her sin. The red rose bush, the same color as her letter A, clearly shows the beauty of the path Hester has taken. Another symbolism is the scarlet letter itself which holds both an inner and outer meaning. It symbolizes the secrt sin of a person, and the book constanty refers to the internal scarlet letter everyone possesses.
Sybolism is when an item, word, or person has a deeper meaning most often symbolizing something different. An example of symbolism in The Scarlet Letter is when they see a meteor in the sky. To Dimmesdale the meteor means that he should exhibit the mark of shame just as Hester does.
Symbolism is when a object, person, animal, word, or etc has a deep, inner meaning that symbolizes something different than originally portrayed. The meteor symbolizes to Dimmesdale that he should represent the symbol of shame and adultery in the same manner as Hester does.
Symbolism is when a word, term, or phrase has another meaning underneath. One example is is the color red used throughout the novel. It means love and passion. Another example is when Dimmesdale sees the thing flying through the sky and this makse him think that he should wear his punishment like Hester.
Symbolism is when an object, person, or animal has a eperate meaning in a story. Two examples of symbolism in The Scarlet Letter are the scarlet "A" and Pearl. The scarlet letter is a symbol of Hester's **** and passion. The red is mostly the symbol of passion and the "A" stands fro adultery. Pearl is the symbol of Hester's adultery also. She is the everyday standing symbol that Hester has sinned and she is the living proof of that.
Symbolism is when something or someone stands for more than just a character or figure. Two examples of symbolism is the scarlet letter "A" and Pearl.
Symbolism is when a person or object has a double meaning. Examples of symbolism in The Scarlet Letter are the rose bush and the color of Hester's "A". The colors of the rosebush and the "A" represent passion.
Symbolism is the act of using an object, term, or phrase to represent something else. An example of symbolism in The Scarlet Letter would be the letter "A". It represents the act of adultery that Hester committed. Another symbol that is used in the novel is the rose at the beginning that represented the small glimpse of hope in such a desolate time.
