3rd grade natural resources

Posted by jherring5 Jun 23, 2011

This lesson sourced from the National Geographic Education site has students explore the California Gold Rush from boom towns to ghost towns. After gathering sources from the Nat Geo site, students will create a virtual timeline for the rush in the form of an interactive museum box.

5th Grade Social Studies Lesson

Posted by syboayue Jun 23, 2011

This lesson is a continuation of the legacy of Lewis and Clark's Expedition. This lesson specifically focuses on the geographical aspect. Technology is integrated into this lesson through an online activity where students will be given the opportunity to create their own adventure.

Thinkfinity summary

Posted by doolahley Jun 22, 2011

3 things that I learned:

1. I learned how to set up a binder with really cool math games for my first graders

2.  I learned that we now have new standards which replaced the essentials

3.  I discovered many new websites and saved them in my favorites or my binder

4.  I learned from my instructor and colleagues and appreciated their patience

I am not confident with all that I learned, but hope with practice I will become more proficient at this!

Day 1

Posted by jherring5 Jun 22, 2011

Today I learned how to use livebinders to organizer resources for lesson planning. I also learned how to use the voki avatar, which I can embed in my wiki (once I create one). The livebinders site also led me to a resource called museum boxes. I plan on using this resource in an interactive social studies unit.

I would like to learn more about creating a website and class blog. I would like to have my students blog next year, but I am not sure where to begin!

Day 1 of training

Posted by natasharidge Jun 22, 2011

I learned how to navigate new websites, gather information for the subjects I teach during the day and be resourceful with my computer time.

I would like to know how many teachers in Kindergarten really use voki in the classroom ans at point of the day?

Today's Lesson

Posted by jsmiles212 Jun 22, 2011

Three things I've learned:

  1. I've learned about how to organize my information on Livebinder.com
  2. I've learned about getting and receiving educational information through blogs
  3. I've learned about Voki's and other fun resources/websites

Two things I'm confused about: N/A

One question:

1. I don't really have a question right now.. but I'm looking forward to looking through the new websites and resources we've received today to find creative ways to reach my Kindergartners

Thoughts for the day

Posted by syboayue Jun 22, 2011

I have learned various resources (thinkifinity, voki, livebinders etc) I can use to enhance student learning, I have learned how to utilize resources that have already been created, and I have learned a bit about how to utlize each of those resources. I would like to learn more about how to navigate through these sites and ways of implementing them. I would like to learn how to create my own wiki through cms and pbworks.

Overview of Day (6-22-11)

Posted by tonyward Jun 22, 2011

3 things I learned:

How to create and manage a voki.

How to create and manage Livebinder which is really useful.

Ways to find interactive activities that are related to lessons that have be covered in class.

2 Things that I'm confused about:

What's the difference between National Standards,  Core Standards,  Essential Standards and the NCSCOS.

How do I get my Wiki to be as inclusive and attractive as the live binder  since in CMS we are required to maintain a wiki.

1 questions I have.

As a new media specialist,  How do I decide what to teacher when in a logical progression (pacing guide) but ensuring that I am incorporating the information and technology standards as well as the grade level specific standards.

Learned

  1. I had started playing with Voki and never gotten back to it, so I’m glad I had some more time and pushing to play some more with it.
  2. Livebinders is a great organizational tool, and I’m interested to see how I’ll be able to have my students use them.
  3. I had heard about thinkfinity, but not done anything with it, so now I’ve had time to see how much there is

Not confused about any items presented and no questions at this time.

Thanks, Gale, for sharing your expertise.
