On March 5th, 1694, Great poet, and first great Latin American Poet, a Mexican nun by the name of Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz was forced to reaffirm her vows to the Catholic Church. She had to give up her books and her writing. She was a published poet in both continents, New and Old---quite a feat in those days for a woman!
However, once she lost her royal protection, she had to part from that which she loved the most: her books, learning, writing. She had to profess her vows as a nun above all else, and sign in her own blood "I, the worst of all"
