Thinkfinity Community was just added to the options in the AddThis toolbar that lives on many websites.

Here's how AddThis works: Many companies put the AddThis "Share" toolbar on their websites to help people save their content to another website (such as Digg, Facebook, or the Thinkfinity Community.) For example, you can see the Share toolbar on this page in our content partner EDSITEment's website. So, when you're surfing the web and you find a web page you want to bookmark to the Thinkfinity Community, look for this Share toolbar, as it's faster and easier than cutting and pasting the url.

How does this help you?

1. When you're browsing the web, look for the AddThis toolbar, and select Thinkfinity from the menu to save that resource directly to your Thinkfinity Community Favorite Resources. You'll be able to share your favorite URLs from any of the over 1.5 million websites have integrated AddThis.

Note: Don't see us at the top of the list? Select More > and scroll down to Thinkfinity. Because the AddThis menu is smart, next time you select it, you should see Thinkfinity in the top, compact menu.

2. Want to put AddThis on your website or blog page?  It's really easy.  Just go to http://www.addthis.com and sign up right on the home page.

3. If you're browsing the web and find a site where Thinkfinity is not on the AddThis toolbar, write in and encourage them to add it so that all Thinkfinity Community members can quickly and easily save bookmarks from that location!

To paste into the community using IE 7 & 8, use Ctrl + V instead of the right mouse click.

The paste option is not selectable on PC users' right click.

You can bookmark websites directly within the community or install the "Add to Thinkfinity" button to your browser to make bookmarking easy all the time.

Top Tips:

  • Before creating a new bookmark, Search the Community (at the top right of the site) to see if it's already been created. If so, simply select it to add to your favorites.
  • When creating a new bookmark, create a descriptive title and use tags so that other can find it when they search.
  • Go to Browse All > Favorite Resources to discover top favorites of the week, month, and year.
  • When bookmarking a personal page, mark it as private.

To bookmark within the community:

  • Select the Create New tab in the yellow toolbar.
  • Select Favorite Resources.
  • Enter the URL and click Next.
  • Enter a descriptive title, notes, and tags, and choose Save.
  • Note: If you would like the bookmark to be private from the community, make sure to check Make this Favorite Resource Private.

To bookmark using the "Add to Thinkfinity" button:

  • Select the Create New tab in the yellow toolbar.
  • Select Favorite Resources.
  • Select the Install the button link in the blue box near the top of the page. This will create a link in your browser.
  • Now you can add bookmarks whenever you find a great site—just click on the link in your browser.

Unlike your full name and e-mail address, which can be set to private, your username is always visible to both members and non-members from your profile page.

E-mail addresses that are visible online could provide a target for unwanted spam. Therefore, during registration, we're now strongly advising new members not to choose an e-mail address as their username.

Members can not edit their own usernames. If you chose an e-mail address as your username, and you want to change it to something else, please send your current username and preferred username to our system administrators via our Contact Us link and we will assist in making the change.

Username Guidelines

Usernames must be a minimum of 6 characters, should not contain spaces, and should only use these approved character types:
- Uppercase [A-Z]
- lowercase [a-z]
- numerals [0-9]
- punctuation or special characters (!#$%&) we advise against using the @ symbol

Special note for trainers/trainees: Because the TIMS (formerly myThinkfinity) training system is not a public community, many trainers/trainees were encouraged to use their e-mail address as their TIMS log in without any privacy concern; however, we do not recommend the same log in rule for the community. One easy way for current trainers/trainees to create a memorable username for the community is simply to use just the information before the @ in your e-mail address.

All community members have a great deal of control over the visibility of their name and email and the frequency of their email notifications.

To change the visibility of your first/last name and email address:

1. In the gold navigation bar, choose My Stuff > Profile

2. In the Actions sidebar, choose Edit Profile

3. Under the First/Last Name and Email fields, choose the privacy setting that is right for you.

4. Please note that your username is always accessible to all visitors to the site—both members and non-members. Members can not change their usernames, but may request a change from our system administrator.

To change your email notification preferences:

1. In the gold navigation bar, choose My Stuff > Profile

2. In the Actions sidebar, choose Edit Preferences

3. Choose the Email Notification Preferences tab

4. Choose the notification settings are right for you.

We've noticed that the Browse All > People search has not been providing complete search results. We're working to correct this problem.

It may help to read how you can make yourself more visible in our community search.

In the interim, if you're having trouble locating someone on the community, it may help to email that person directly to get that person's username rather than searching for their first or last name.

Update: 07.17.2010

We've located another "search quirk": if a user has a single letter last name and you search using the full name, it will not appear in the search results. We're working to correc this bug.
